Approval granted to revamp Grade-II listed Hunter House in York

S Harrison, the property developer, has secured approval for plans to substantially upgrade the ground floor units of Hunter House on Goodramgate in York.

The upper floors of the Grade-II listed building, which is just 120 metres from York Minster, have already been transformed into 14, one and two bedroom apartments.

The developer will now make the ground floor suitable for a wide range of occupiers.

David Clancy from S Harrison, said: “The successful planning application will enable us to make a number of sympathetic alterations to the ground floor of Hunter House, in order to create units that are of a shape and size that will appeal to both retailers and leisure businesses.”

The work will see the existing three units altered to create two new ones, with an existing empty room on the first floor being integrated into one of the apartments.

David added: “Hunter House is a really important building in York with a rich heritage. It was previously home to department store Hunter and Smallpage which was famous for its grand interiors, and we have worked hard to maintain much of this history and character of the building.

“The result is a stunning range of individual apartments in a highly sought after location, and we will match this by providing first-rate commercial accommodation on the ground floor. We plan to start work on the project this summer.”
