Development to boost local economy by £3.1 million

In a major boost to the Yorkshire economy, leading local housebuilder, Barratt Homes, is launching its St Oswald’s View development in Methley this weekend, which will see the housebuilder construct 222 new homes and bring in over £3.1 million to the local economy.

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes both the Barratt and David Wilson Homes brands, has announced plans to open seven new sites in 2017, creating a total of 900 new homes across the region. The new sites will underpin 285 local jobs and 15 apprenticeships across West Yorkshire.

St Oswald’s View launches this Saturday 21st January, with a range of beautiful three and four bedroom homes available to purchase at this delightful semi-rural site.

The plans to launch the new developments highlight the strength of the housing market, helped by the popularity of schemes such as the Government’s Help to Buy, while also going some way to addressing the much publicised housing shortage throughout areas of the UK.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes already have a number of successful developments in West Yorkshire including Silkwood Gate in Wakefield, Garnett Wharfe in Otley and St Andrews View in Morley, Leeds. The homebuilder predominately employs local sub-contractors and tradesmen, meaning that local businesses and people will benefit directly from the jobs - in the 2015/16 financial year Barratt Developments supported 590 sub-contractor companies and 370 supplier companies.

Nicki Jefferson, Sales Manager at St Oswald’s View, said: “We’ve seen demand for new homes expand very quickly over the year and our new development in Methley will provide more choice for local buyers. It’s also great news for the local economy - in addition to the local construction jobs underpinned by building the new homes, people who move into the new housing will benefit from Section 106 contributions made by Barratt to the local area. We’re excited to see the new development taking shape over the coming months, and can’t wait to explore further ways in which we can get involved with the local community.”
