Liverpool FC select South Korea for International Academy project

Liverpool FC have announced the launch of their first full-time South Korean coaching programme.

The Reds will work alongside club partner LASA Sport Consulting Group to offer ongoing development programmes for youngsters across the country.

Liverpool said the project, which gets underway this month, will provide “unique opportunities” for four- to 18-year-old players to improve their football skills “the Liverpool Way”.

The programme will initially launch in Sejong but eventually expand into Seoul and other major South Korean cities.

While an existing LFC coach will move to South Korea to lead the project and oversee its implementation, the plan is to train local coaches in its delivery.

LFC legend Ian Rush, an ambassador for the club, said: “Having visited Seoul in 2011, I have seen for myself the huge LFC fan base in South Korea so I’m delighted to announce the launch of a full-time coaching programme in this fantastic country.

“Providing young local Reds fans with the opportunity to learn to play ‘The Liverpool Way’ in their own community is unique as players will be introduced to the same coaching philosophies and techniques delivered at our very own Academy in Liverpool.”

He added: “This demonstrates the authenticity of the partnership and something I’m immensely proud to be associated with.”

LASA Sport Consulting Group CEO Jesse Park commented: “Youth football in South Korea is continuously growing and there is a real enthusiasm for the game.

“The implementation of Liverpool FC’s unique youth development system will enable players in South Korea to learn to play football ‘The Liverpool Way’ in a professional and unique environment.”

Jesse continued: “The mission of Liverpool FC International Academy South Korea is to be a leader in the development of football in Korea.

“We will establish an identity of excellence as we pursue our pathway to success on and off the pitch, with our primary focus being the development of players and young people. We will aim to have a positive impact on football development here in South Korea.”
