Widnes logistics firm Suttons to invest £17m in tractor units
Global logistics and supply chain firm Suttons Group has revealed plans to invest millions in its UK road tanker business.
The Widnes-headquartered company will spend £17m on the purchase of more than 200 new Euro-6C 6x2 tractor units during the next two years.
The move, Suttons said, will provide capacity for growth and contribute towards its strategy to invest in new equipment.
The company believes its national tanker network has generated a greater demand for bulk tanker services.
John Sutton, the chief exec of Suttons Group, said: “Suttons Tankers is the UK’s largest bulk chemical logistics company and this latest deal continues Suttons commitment to investing in the latest equipment and technology for both existing and new customers.
“Our drivers’ safety and wellbeing is of great importance so all of the trucks have undergone an evaluation by a driver trainer, focusing on areas like seat comfort, cab and bed access, noise and cab design.”
He continued: “Suttons is committed to ensuring our reputation for fleet reliability, legal compliance and customer service are protected and enhanced and our impact on the environment is reduced through new emission technology.”
The deal was agreed with automakers Volvo and MAN. In the first year of the transaction, Volvo will receive the biggest proportion of orders.
Volvo Trucks UK and Ireland commercial director Mike Corcoran commented: “Volvo Trucks is absolutely delighted and very excited to have won such an important supply agreement from Suttons, which is a long established, key fleet and loyal customer for Volvo and our dealer network.
“Volvo Trucks’ core values of safety, care for the environment and quality align perfectly with those of Suttons.”
He added: “We are very proud to be working closely with such an internationally important logistics and supply chain company.”
In addition to its Widnes HQ, Suttons operates sites in New Jersey, Chicago, Houston, Antwerp, Paris, Ludwigshafen, Khobar, Kuantan, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.
