Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino’s FA ban reduced to 12 months following appeal

Following an appeal, Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino has seen his 18-month Football Association ban reduced to 12-months.

Back in December 2016, the Italian businessman was handed a ban and fined £250k by the FA after being found guilty of breaching rules regarding football agents. The club was also fined £250k.

Cellinowas charged with making an illegal payment to an unlicensed agentover the £10.75m transfer of striker Ross McCormack to Fulham back in 2014.

After a ‘partially successful’ appeal, however, the Championship club’s fine has now been reduced to £200k and Cellino’s to £100k.

The FA announced that Cellino’s ban will commence for 12-months from February 18th.

Leeds United released a statement, which read: “Although the Appeal has been successful, the Club remains disappointed by the outcome and the size of the fine that remains.

“The Club are also incredibly disappointed by the fine and ban imposed upon Mr Cellino, despite reductions following the Appeal.

“Mr Cellino is responsible for significantly reducing the Club’s debt and wage bill as well as the appointment of Garry Monk. Mr Cellino has been the integral leader of the Club’s re-emergence this season.

“The Club will now consider all options with its legal team before making any further comment.”

Leeds United are currently placed fourth in the Championship, only six points behind league leaders Brighton.
