Burnley Wood scheme’s £7m final phase gets underway
A new residential scheme transforming derelict land in Burnley has received a further £7m boost.
Housing company Keepmoat has started work on the fourth and final phase of its Burnley Wood scheme, which will see it build an additional 62 homes on a redeveloped demolition site that previously housed low-quality Victorian terraced houses.
The final homes will comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bed properties for open market sale.
Once complete the Burnley Wood project, which first began in 2008, will have created 242 homes and transformed the area into a thriving neighbourhood with new community facilities and public services.
Keepmoat is delivering the scheme in partnership with Burnley Borough Council.
Gareth Roberts, Keepmoat’s North West regional managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be building on the demand at Burnley Wood with the delivery of an additional phase.
“These new homes offer real options for local people to get on the housing ladder or progress to a bigger home, thanks to the availability of schemes like Help to Buy.”
He continued: “Our partnership with Burnley Council continues to deliver first-rate regeneration; as together, we have identified unused and unkempt land and delivered much-needed new homes for local people, while attracting new residents from further afield.”
The council’s executive member for housing and environment, Cllr John Harbour, commented: “It’s great to see work start on the latest phase of Keepmoat’s development in Burnley Wood.
“The houses already built have changed the face of the area and drawn in new people and injected an extra lease of life into an already thriving community.”
He added: “This is a welcome investment and I’m excited to see how the finished homes will look.”
