Amazon rumoured to be plotting ‘no check outs’ grocery store in London

US online retailer Amazon is rumoured to be hunting for retail space in central London as it plans to bring its Amazon Go concept to the capital.

The online giant unveiled its bricks and mortar ambitions in a widely shared video in December, demonstrating its no check out grocery store where shoppers are automatically charged to their Amazon accounts.

Amazon is currently trialling the revolutionary grocery shop exclusively for its employees in its Seattle heartland, where a network of sensors record when a customer lifts an item off a shelf to automatically bill their Amazon account.

Now, according to The Times, the retailer has been hunting for a site for an Amazon Go outlet in the capital, and quoted a source which said the US firm had identified nearly a dozen potential sites in central London.

The rumours come after Amazon trademarked the Amazon Go name in the UK last year, and follows its initial tilt at the UK grocery market with its online Amazon Fresh delivery service.
