Is this the end for Apple’s Geniuses? On-demand tech repair startup closes £265k seed round

London-based on-demand technology repair service, Repairly, has closed a six-figure seed round as it looks to expand its service across the capital.

The startup, which has already participated in Virgin Media’s first-ever accelerator programme, has raised £265k from investors including Richard Fearn, Grabble Chief Executive Daniel Murray and former Google executive Richard Pleeth.

Founded by Richard Edwards and Fraser Williams, Repairly offers on-demand phone, tablet and laptop repairs through its app, offering a collect, repair and return service in London that takes on average 2 hours and 6 minutes.

Commenting on the ethos behind the business, Edwards, who has previously worked at online cleaning marketplace, Hassle.com, said: “We ensure busy people with broken technology are back up and running as soon as possible.

“We saw how much technology had advanced but the support for that technology was lagging behind. People were waiting for up to 2 weeks without their phone. That seems crazy in today’s technology-reliant society.”

Fellow Co-Founder, Richard Edwards, who dropped out of University in 2015 to focus on the startup full time, said Repairly hoped to turn the ‘negative experience’ of breaking your device into a positive one.

He said: “Over 32,000 phones get broken every day in the UK alone. People don’t know where to turn when this happens. Repairly turns people’s negative experience into a positive one, and if you can find delight in a phone repair, you can find it anywhere.”

Repairly graduated from Virgin Media’s Tech Stars accelerator which was based out of Aldgate last year, along with fellow early stage businesses including GoalShouter and KonnectAgain.
