Alchemist bar receiving 50 applications a day to fill 80 positions ahead of Newcastle launch

Highly-anticipated Newcastle cocktail bar The Alchemist is reportedly receiving 50 job applications a day in the run up to its launch, with almost 1200 applications received so far.

Due to open in on Nelson Street in March, the bar is creating around 80 jobs from mixologists, servers and chefs to bar backs and hosts.

The upcoming site in the city centre, which is expected to be a key player in the regenerated Grey’s Quarter at Eldon Square, will be the Alchemist’s 9th venue across the UK.

Three recruitment days have therefore been organised for the 14th, 15th and 16th of February, following which successful applicants will be taken forward into an intensive two-week training programme.

Simon Potts, Managing Director of The Alchemist, said: “Newcastle city centre is an obvious destination for us as a brand because our target market is urban, savvy, fun-loving professionals who are after something that little bit different.”

To showcase its unconventional cocktails based on ‘molecular mixology’ and creative food offering, The Alchemist is being designed by Nottingham-based interior architecture and design studio Macaulay Sinclair and opening is planned for the end of March.

Simon added: “The response to our recruitment drive has been superb and we’re looking for people who want to build their careers with us.

“The Alchemist is a fantastic place to work and we thrive on creating theatre and delivering a top class service for our guests.”
