North East developer to restore Scottish mansion
Newcastle based All Saints Living has completed the £640,000 purchase of a once grand, listed Scottish manor house, paving the way for a sensitive restoration project.
Morar House in Helensburgh, overlooking the Clyde Estuary, was designed by architect William Leiper and built between 1901 and 1903. It is next to Charles Rennie Machintosh’s Hill House. Having stood empty for several years, it is listed in the Scottish buildings at risk register country houses, mansions and large villas category.
Planning permission for its redevelopment was granted last year – allowing All Saints to deliver a tasteful and sensitive renovation, which will restore the house to its former glory.
A number of original features remain and will be incorporated into six spacious apartments in the original house, while a new extension will include six more. Three large detached homes will also be built within the grounds.
Another highly successful restoration and new build venture carried out north of the border by All Saints Living was the grade B (Grade II) listed mansion, barns, outbuildings and walled garden at Larbert House and Country Estate in Stirlingshire.
This was nominated for numerous property accolades and won the Best Renovation Project, Scotland title at the 2015 Real Estate and Property Awards.
