Free workshops to equip entrepreneurs with business tools

A series of business based workshops designed to give entrepreneurs the support needed for their business ideas to succeed are set to take place in Barnsley.

Hosted by Launchpad; a Sheffield City Region wide scheme developed to help individuals transform their business ideas into reality; the workshops are designed to equip entrepreneurs and new business owners who have been trading for less than 2 years with everything they need to know about running and growing a business.

The workshops will take place at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre and are completely free of charge.

The weekly workshops will see some of the region’s leading business experts discuss a variety of subjects ranging from money matters and taxation, recruiting your first employee to finding new customers and getting started with e-Commerce to name but a few .

Aiming to equip individuals with the confidence, tools and support to take the leap and transform business ideas from pipe dreams to possibilities, Launchpad is a unique programme forming part of the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub. It is funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund and delivered by local authorities within the Sheffield City Region and the Princes Trust.

Paul Tinsley, Start Up Manager at Launchpad in Barnsley said:

“The aim of these workshops is to equip entrepreneurs and existing business owners with the skills needed to run and grow a successful business. Each workshop explores a different subject area and not only provides an opportunity to develop new skills, but to meet other new entrepreneurs, share experiences and help to lay the foundations for future growth.

“If you have ever dreamed of working for yourself or you recently started a business and are ready to take the next step on your business journey, attending the free workshops will be extremely beneficial and informative.

“As well as workshops which are held every week, Launchpad delivers a mentoring programme, delivered by experienced entrepreneurs who are committed to sharing their knowledge and skills with others.”

About Launchpad: The Launchpad programme is a £4M, three year, part-ERDF funded programme, designed to increase the business stock in the Sheffield City Region (SCR) through the provision of pre start, start up and post start up support. The programme commenced on 1st April 2016 for an initial period of 3 years.

The programme is targeting economic growth through initiatives to develop entrepreneurial mind-sets and skills to promote self-employment as a career option and to equip individuals with the entrepreneurial knowledge, technical skills and competencies required to establish and run successful businesses through the delivery of training, mentoring and business support.

The programme is being delivered by a consortium led by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) with delivery partners – Sheffield City Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council and The Prince’s Trust. Funding is provided by each delivery partner, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority.

The European Regional Development Fund: The project is receiving up to £2,359,613 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Department for Communities and Local Government (and in London the intermediate body Greater London Authority) is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund.
