Huge names among 300 potential suitors for Tottenham Hotspur stadium naming rights

Premier League football club, Tottenham Hotspur, are committed to ditching the historic White Hart Lane name for their new stadium due to fears that any references to the club’s heritage could impact the size of any sponsorship deal.

The club have long been rumoured to be hunting for a big-name sponsor for their glitzy new 61,000-seater stadium, with names including Uber, Nike and the Qatar Investment Authority touted in the past.

According to The Times, the club are now determined to drop any reference to the name of their current home due to fears that it may damage the commercial viability of any potential sponsorship deal.

The article also reveals that the club have already held talks with more than 300 companies, with Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy, hoping to seal a deal worth at least £400m in an effort to recoup over half the total cost for their new ground.

However, with London rivals Chelsea also seeking a new sponsor for their new 60,000 seater stadium, and West Ham United still hunting a corporate partner for their new Stratford home, the marketplace for corporate naming rights deals has become increasingly crowded in the last couple of years.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently in the midst of their final season at White Hart Lane, with the club set to play their home games at Wembley next season before moving into their new £750m stadium in the 2018/19 season.
