Property developer snaps up historic William Bainbridge Reynolds metal works site
A Surrey property developer is plotting a new luxury apartment development on the historic site of Victorian metalworker, William Bainbridge Reynolds, famous metal works.
Malins Group has acquired a row of mews in Clapham on the site of Reynolds’ ‘Art Metal Works’, where the famous metalworker plied his craft in the early 1900s, including the creation of St. Paul’s Cathedral’s Kitchener chapel gates.
Sitting near Clapham Common and Clapham High Street, the £17m development is set to deliver 19 luxury ‘New York-style’ loft apartments housed within two to three storey buildings dubbed ‘The Metalworks’.
Malins Group, which has developments in upmarket London neighbourhoods like Belgravia, Chelsea and Knightsbridge, has previously masterminded redevelopment at the former site of The Beatles’ Apple Records at 94 Baker Street in Marylebone.
Commenting on this latest development, Malins Managing Director, Lauren Atkins, said: “From the Beatles’ HQ to the home of another British pioneer, we take pride in our ability to provide stunning luxury developments with a cultural depth gained through the fascinating heritage these buildings offer.
“The acquisition of this site will help to continue that trend, combining history with style in a hugely popular area with great transport links and plenty of green space.”
