Scunthorpe care home appoints new manager

A Scunthorpe care home has appointed a new manager following significant refurbishment.

Anthony Egan, an experienced manager with more than two decades of experience in the care industry, joins Sunningdale Court, a home operated by Hull-based Hica Group.

Anthony, who was inspired to join the care sector after fostering 25 children in 1990s, began as a carer for people with disabilities and older people. He then went on to be appointed to senior and managerial roles at residential homes and domiciliary care groups.

Anthony, 54, said: “Sunningdale Court has a great reputation and has received good CQC reports so I knew it would be a positive place to work. The team are fantastic and have made me feel at home straight away.

“The Hica Group is very much like a family and the senior and regional management are very supportive. The organisation as a whole really cares about its residents and want to give them not just the best care, but the best quality of life, which is something I fully support and agree with.

“I am looking forward to implementing my own management style and consistently maintaining a high level of support for staff, residents and their families. There are always opportunities to develop well being, activities and community engagement and I plan to concentrate on these key areas to ensure residents wellbeing and health.”

Sunningdale Court is home to 16 permanent residents who live across two spacious bungalows. A team of 35 staff, including senior carers, care staff, activity coordinators, kitchen staff and domestics ensure the best living environment for the residents, who are aged between 25 and 84. A third bungalow is occupied by respite care residents, who visit the home for short periods to provide a break for both them and their full time carers.

The home recently underwent significant refurbishment, including redecorating, new flooring throughout and renovation of its outdoor garden areas, providing a sensory outdoor area for residents to enjoy.

Penni Brown, chief executive at Hica Group said: “We are delighted to welcome someone with so much passion and dedication to care, as well as valuable experience and skills. This is an exciting time for Sunnningdale Court, as we have invested heavily in the home as well as restructure within the management team.

“Anthony has already made a positive impact with residents and staff, and we look forward to him continuing the fantastic work he has already displayed.”

The Hica Group is a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 19 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a home care service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
