Kleen-Tex acquires £2.5m-turnover Turtle Mat Company
The UK arm of international floor mat business Kleen-Tex Industries has expanded with the acquisition of a firm that supplies John Lewis, Lakeland and various other high street retailers.
Bolton-based Kleen-Tex Holdings (UK) snapped up The Turtle Mat Company for an undisclosed sum.
Turtle Mat is headquartered in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, and was founded in 1994 by James Turtle. Today, the firm employs a team of six with a revenue of over £2.5m.
In addition to its network of retail partners, Turtle Mat sells its residential doormats through its website, mail-order business and events such as Crufts, BBC Gardeners’ World Live and RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Kleen-Tex was advised on the acquisition by a team from North West accountants HURST that included Nigel Barratt and Ryan Niblock, of HURST Corporate Finance, and James Thompson from the firm’s tax team.
Legal advice was provided by Andrew Sturge of Manchester law firm Turner Parkinson.
Kleen-Tex Industries, a $60m-turnover business, is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and supplies mats for domestic, commercial and industrial use.
Kleen-Tex Holdings (UK) is a subsidiary of Kleen-Tex Europe and undertakes sales and marketing operations.
Jürgen Teubenbacher, the managing director at Kleen-Tex Europe, said: “With Turtle Mat, we are gaining a strong retail brand for our company portfolio, especially in the UK market.
“For both companies, there are very positive synergies, on sales, marketing and distribution.”
He continued: “With a shared mission to provide tried, trusted and innovative products to their customers and with a focus on excellent service, Turtle Mat is an excellent choice to grow our position within the UK.”
Turtle Mat general manager, director Susan Leaver, commented: “We are very happy to join the Kleen-Tex organisation. Kleen-Tex has a wealth of product expertise and market knowledge, which puts us in a strong, competitive position.”
HURST’s Ryan Niblock said of the deal: “This acquisition brings about a number of synergies and provides both Kleen-Tex and The Turtle Mat Company with a great opportunity for further development and growth.”
