New jobs and new Shoreditch office as Amazon UK swells its ranks
Amazon UK has announced it is to open a new head office in Shoreditch this year as part of its UK-wide drive to recruit 5,000 new full-time staff.
Revealed this morning, the online retailer is to grow its UK workforce to over 24,000 with new roles ranging from software developers to engineers and entry-level positions centered around its London head office, Edinburgh and three new distribution centres.
As part of the expansion, the company has also announced that it is to open a new UK head office at the 15-storey Principal Place, to complement its current HQ at 60 Holborn Viaduct.
The firm said that both buildings combined will provide space for over 5,000 Amazon employees in the capital alone by the end of 2017.
Elsewhere, the retail giant is also set to expand its East London Fashion Photography Studio, it’s AWS Europe (London) Region office and it will also add new roles to Development Centres in London, Cambridge and Edinburgh, where it has developed innovations such as Prime Air and Alexa.
Following the announcement, Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, Amazon commented: “We are creating thousands of new UK jobs including hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities as we continue to innovate for our customers and provide them with even faster delivery, more selection and better value.”
