Stagecoach welcomes new engineering manager

Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire has strengthened its engineering team on the Wirral with the appointment of a new engineering manager, based at its Birkenhead depot.

John Thompson, who joined the business as an apprentice, has been promoted to the role internally, he previously held the position of assistant engineering manager at Stagecoach’s Gilmoss depot in Liverpool.

His new role will involve helping to ensure the smooth running of Stagecoach’s garage at Birkenhead; ensuring vehicles are well maintained; managing a team of engineers; and assisting with training. He will report to Stagecoach’s director of engineering, Tony Cockcroft.

John said: “I started my career as an apprentice with Stagecoach and I was able to benefit from great training and mentoring from the team at the Gilmoss depot at an early stage. This was an experience which gave me a really firm foundation in my career, and it’s great to be helping to mentor and work alongside our next generation of engineers at Birkenhead.

“This is an exciting time in automotive engineering, we’re developing increasingly sustainable, eco-friendly, high-tech buses that make the passenger experience even better, and it’s great to be working on the frontline and seeing these advances in transport first-hand.

“Over the last six years with the business, I’ve had the opportunity to develop and advance within the company and I’m really enjoying working with the team at Birkenhead and look forward to working with the engineering management team to grow and strengthen this integral part of the business.”
