New radio and podcast network MCR Live to showcase Manchester’s cultural scene
A radio and podcast network focusing on Manchester’s vibrant cultural scene has launched this week.
MCR Live is aiming to break the mould of traditional radio and move away from what it called the “ad-heavy format” of existing local stations.
Instead, the network will collaborate with businesses, DJs and bands to offer the city a “unique” listening experience.
The minds behind MCR Live said it will champion Manchester musicians, offer guides on new restaurants and bars, and deliver podcast interviews with local personalities.
Led by James Mulvany, the founder of digital radio startup Radio.co, alongside student radio alumnus Rhys Hancock, MCR Live is based in Jactin House, a former Victorian mill in the Ancoats area.

James said: “The network is the first step in creating a go-to platform for this city and we’re hugely excited to be up and running.”
The team will also comprise two full-time presenter/producers, Jess Campbell and Charlie Perry, and audio producer Tom Hughes, formerly of Reform Radio.
MCR Live’s content director, Rhys Hancock, commented: “We’re really looking forward to engaging with the brilliant creative scene here in Manchester.
“If you’ve got something to say to the city, get in touch.”
