Bradford Children's Centre get housebuilder's cash

A children’s centre in Bradford is set to deliver interactive storytelling sessions to youngsters thanks to a donation from a West Yorkshire housebuilder.

Bradford Children’s Centre has received the £1,000 grant courtesy of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire’s Community Champions scheme, an initiative which backs two good causes with donations of up to a grand each month.

The centre provides a range of services for children and families in Bradford, also giving support to parents and carers experiencing stress.

Persimmon’s donation will be put towards new storytelling sessions for the children – put on by a local theatre group.

Susan Earnshaw, children’s services manager at Bradford Children’s Centre, said: “Being awarded this generous funding from Persimmon Homes is a massive help to us.

“We are here to build a better future for the children of Bradford and this donation is sure to create some fantastic, new storytelling sessions.

“Many families are living on low incomes and the play sessions, parenting clubs, training and welfare advice we offer are important lifelines for helping them cope with the daily needs of their families.”

The group provides a range of classes including antenatal classes, midwife support, parenting programmes and immunisation clinics.

Simon Whalley, sales director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “We love to support charities in the areas in which we build, and with Bradford Children’s Centre so close to Rooley Park it was great to get behind them.

“The centre plays a key role in the community and this is what Community Champions is all about.

“I’d encourage any charities to reapply that weren’t successful this month, as we pick two winners each month.”
