At the highest level, BAs should facilitate a shared understanding of the problem, provide possible solutions and find out the scope of the project. You must also look for business analysts that help team members resolve technical challenges, particularly when multiple companies or technical stakeholders are involved.
2. Must Be A Critical Thinker

BA should be responsible for evaluating several options before help a team settle on a particular solution. In the process of finding the solutions to the problems, BAs must pay attention to the stakeholder needs, but then evaluate those needs critically and ask possible questions to clarify the primary purpose of that need.
3. Must Have Top-notch Analysis Skills
A business analyst uses a number of techniques to evaluate the problem and the solution. It might be possible that some new BAs didn’t attend root cause analysis training sessions, so they’re unable to analyze the problem and provide a valuable solution correctly. When you hire an experienced business analyst, he will be able to use a number of techniques such as business process models and decision models to carry out analysis and dig out the problem or solution.
4. Must Have The Ability To Create Visual Models
The ability to create visual models is also called as visual modeling. So, this is another significant aspect that you need to consider as an employer while hiring business analysts. Visual modeling is a close sister to many analysis techniques. It includes the ability to create wireframe prototypes or workflow diagrams. There could be specific models that you need to create for any particular analyst role. But as a general skill set, a business analyst should be able to incarcerate the visual information, whether in a napkin drawing or a formal model.
5. Must Have Elicitation & Facilitation Skills
When it comes to the business analysts, they facilitate several types of meetings. The most successful elicitation and facilitation sessions that a business analyst facilitates are observations and interviews. When you talk about some advanced roles, these meetings are known as requirement workshops or JAD sessions. So, as an employer, you should keep in mind that the business analyst must have these skills. You can also consider new BAs that have some relevant experience of facilitating similar discussions or meetings that could be transferable into elicitation experience.
