Housebuilder secures Easingwold youth group future
A youth club in Easingwold has secured a qualified youth worker, following a housebuilder’s donation.
Easingwold Community Youth Centre (COZIE) received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as part of its Community Champions initiative which supports charities and groups in the region.
The youth club attracts more than 25 youngsters and is currently open two nights a week. From its premises at The Galtres Centre, the club provides a secure and welcoming venue for local children to socialise. Facilities include table football, computer games, internet access and one-to-one advice sessions.
Sadly three years ago the Council withdrew its funding and COZIE has since survived on grants and donations.
Laura Varney, chairman at COZIE, said: “Our services have always remained popular in Easingwold and it has taken a lot of fund raising to ensure we can continue.
“If it wasn’t for our team of volunteers we would have closed. The presence of a qualified youth worker adds a huge benefit to our offering.
“Persimmon’s funds will enable us to employ the expertise of a youth worker and stay open for a further three months. We couldn’t be more grateful.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000 by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
Kevin Thubron, sales director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Earlier this year we completed construction on a site in Easingwold and are currently in the early stages of a new development in the town.
“It is organisations like COZIE that our Community Champions initiative was designed to benefit so we are delighted to help support their ongoing work.
“If people were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
