Wakefield's Hepworth Riverside Gallery Garden to be delivered by Manchester construction consultancy
The Hepworth Riverside Gallery Garden in conjunction with The Hepworth Wakefield, West Yorkshire, is set to be delivered by Dooley Associates.
The Manchester-based construction consultancy has been appointed to undertake cost planning, procurement, and consultancy management for the project, working alongside garden and landscape designer Tom Stuart-Smith, to deliver the large-scale, complex regeneration project.
The designs for the new garden are inspired by Barbara Hepworth’s love of the Yorkshire landscape and its location between a 21st century art gallery and 19th century textile mill.
The scheme comprises three distinct areas, to be completed in phases as funding streams become available, with the plan being to create a new visitor attraction and public space for Wakefield.
The Hepworth Wakefield garden project is part of a wider regeneration initiative of Wakefield’s waterfront, forming a link to the adjacent Rutland Mills and the River Calder.
Kath Knight, head of business and operations at The Hepworth Wakefield, said: “Our vision is for a vibrant and dynamic riverside garden, designed to inspire and engage the public through play, events and displays, in the setting of a beautifully designed new landscape.
“We needed a reliable and proven team to deliver this project on our behalf, and we are confident that Dooley Associates is the right partner to help us bring this new space to Wakefield, providing the strategic guidance and professional management this important initiative requires.”
Brendan Dooley, managing director at Dooley Associates, added: “It is a real pleasure for us to be able to work on such a landmark project with The Hepworth Wakefield.
“Having completed a number of public schemes, including a package of projects for Manchester Cathedral, we’re confident that we can deliver a successful outcome for Wakefield on this complex and sensitive project. I look forward to working with The Hepworth Wakefield to make its vision a reality.”
