Bassingbourne Diners Enjoy Polish Feast By TV Chef
Celebrity chef and ambassador for Polish cuisine in Great Britain, Damian Wawrzyniak kicked off his first ever Polish Feast food tour at The Belle freehouse in Bassingbourne this week. Hot out of the Jamie Oliver FIFTEEN Kitchen, Polish Feast is Chef Wawrzyniak’s nationwide homage to dishes of his homeland and the last frontier of undiscovered cuisine.
Serving up an eclectic collection of mouth-watering family style food, the TV chef – who also cooked his famous Babka for Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry on her BBC show – wowed a full house of fans with seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes finished with a modern twist. Dishes included meat, fish, preserved fruits and pickled vegetables, all prepared in front of guests using a range of different cooking techniques. Accompanying each plate was a description of the dish, its ingredients and history of the food.
The menu included wild boar pate with pistachios, smalec, classic chicken broth with homemade ‘kluski’, pierogies, hand rolled knedle stuffed with plum and cinnamon and finished with raspberry and juniper berries along with Pear Marinated in 2016 Spruce Liquor, Szarlotka and hand made doughnuts ï¬Âlled with fermented plum.
Chef Wawrzyniak said, “I’m so pleased with how well our very first date in the 2017 Polish Feast went. The Belle in Bassingbourne was the perfect location with its fusion of cosy interior and modern touches. The event was a sell out and, everyone who sat down to share our family style dishes really loved the food prepared for them. Several guests told me that the plates evoked memories of their childhood, which is the biggest compliment I could receive. We’re off to Shrewsbury next for the second date of the tour and I can’t wait to cook up more family-style dishes for Polish expats living here in the UK along with other food fans eager to try Polish food for the first time.”
Polish Feast 2017 is sponsored by Grant Sous Vide and Sous Vide Tools. It is supported by the Polish Tourist Association with the Polish Embassy holding honorary patronage, saying “We are pleased to announce that the Polish Embassy in London took Honorary Patronage over the First Ever Polish Culinary Tour across Great Britain.”
