Bury manufacturer creates ‘Octopus’ water tank for Hinkley nuclear station
North West manufacturer Garic has created a unique ‘Octopus’ tank to be used at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station development.
The Bury-based supplier of site setup equipment worked alongside the partnership delivering Hinkley Point C, Kier BAM Joint Venture, to develop a bespoke tank for water management works currently being undertaken as part of the project’s enabling works.
According to Garic, the scheme’s “exacting requirements” called for a tank that would be able to manage numerous outlets associated with groundwater management.
During the design and production stages, which took six and eight weeks respectively, Garic worked closely with Kier BAM bring make the tank a reality.
The tank required a larger-than-average volume, so Garic designed a 2,000 gallon Octopus settlement tank complete with six inlet and seven outlets points.
Garic forms part of Liverpool shipping and marine giant Bibby Line Group.
A £1.7bn business headquartered in Liverpool, today Bibby Line operates in over 20 countries and employs 6,500 people.
