Current Crossrail chief takes the helm at London City Airport
Sir Terry Morgan CBE, the current non-executive chairman at Crossrail Ltd, has today (7 March) become the new Chairman at London City Airport after Roy Griffins’ retirement.
Bringing with him decades of experience having held top-level positions at asset management company Tube Lines and a stint as Managing Director at Land Rover in the 90s, Morgan will be tasked with shepherding the airport through a period of ambitious growth.
Investment and refurbishment at the Central London airport has kicked into gear in the last couple of years, culminating in its £2bn sale to a Canadian consortium in February 2016.
A £344m expansion programme was also greenlit at the airport last summer, with plans to create 1,600 jobs at the airport and significantly expand capacity, including more frequent flights and quieter aircraft.
Following his appointment, Morgan said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role at such an exciting period at London City Airport with the City Airport Development Programme having been granted formal planning permission in 2016.
“I look forward to working with the Board, shareholders and executive team to help the business to fulfill its potential over the coming years.”
Griffins, who has been at the helm for over ten years, added: “Over the past ten years London City has shown how much good a responsible, well managed airport can do for its neighbourhood, its city, the country.
“Between 2006 and 2016 the number of passengers using the airport almost doubled, from 2.4m to over 4.5m, reinforcing London City’s reputation as the UK’s leading business airport.
“I am proud to have been a part of that success story and I wish Sir Terry, the London City Board and the executive team every success in the airport’s continuing journey.”
