Delight as Winners of Regional Care Home Award Make National Finals

A chef and nurse who work for Milford Care have made it through to the national final of the Great British Care Awards.

Richard Glover, a chef at Ashbourne Lodge, won the Care Home Cook/Chef Award at the Great East Midlands Care Awards final, and Josephine Morones won the Palliative Care/End of Life Award, both at the awards which were held in November. Both members of staff were nominated by residents or their families.

Both will attend the national finals of the Great British Care Awards in a gala evening on March 31 at The ICC in Birmingham where the most outstanding award winners from nine regions will go head-to-head.

Josephine, 31, works across Milford Care’s homes, including Spencer Grove in Belper, The Meadows in Alfreton and Hazelgrove in Hucknall. She said: “I am really happy to have made it through to the national finals. I have been for the interview with the judges in Birmingham. I was nervous but they were really nice and asked me lots of questions.

“Fingers crossed I’ve made it. Winning the last award motivated me to do my job better.”

Richard Glover, 32, has been a chef at Ashbourne Lodge since it opened two years ago. He said: “It is exciting to have made it to the national final but also quite daunting. I try not to build myself up because if it doesn’t happen it would be a huge disappointment, but if I win it would be a great surprise.”

HR Manager, Samantha Palmer said “It’s great to see these two fantastic members of our team recognised on a national stage. Whether they win on the night or not, they can be proud to be recognised as the best in the region and amongst the very best in the country.”
