Newcastle expansion pays dividends for national investment firm

A national investment company, which recently celebrated the first anniversary of its Newcastle office opening, is crediting the North East’s potential for its speedy success.

Beaufort Securities, headquartered in London, opened up an office on the city’s Quayside at the back end of 2015 and over the last 15 months, has seen key additions to its expanding team.

Named Best Advisory Stockbroker at the Shares Awards for the third year in a row last November, the company prides itself on its fresh and flexible approach to creating and delivering bespoke investment strategies for a diverse range of investors.

Office manager, Nick Williams, who was approached by Beaufort Securities’ board to oversee the move into the North East, believes the region’s potential has been key to ensuring the effective expansion.

He said: “The company has wanted a presence in the North East for some time, having recognised the potential up here.

“When the decision was made to expand, as a Teessider, I was delighted to be asked to take the lead and it really has been a fantastic year.

“On a personal level, it’s been great to be involved in growing revenue, assets under management and the team and it’s extremely rewarding to now see the office on an upward curve as we go into another year.”

Recent additions to Beaufort Securities’ North East team, Senior Stockbroker Fergus Westwood and Business Development Manager Chris Reynolds, boast over 45 years’ experience between them.

As long-term friends, as well as colleagues, they are looking forward to the freedom working in the region gives them, while being part of a growing organisation.

Fergus, who spent the majority of his 18-year career working in investment management for one of the industry’s larger firms, said: “I’m filled with optimism working for this exciting, dynamic company and it’s great to have joined a firm where the head count is rising.

“I love the freedom we have to go anywhere and meet anyone who needs our services. We have an enormous level of autonomy to meet clients, really get to know them and explain our services and how we can help them.”

Former area manager for Leeds Building Society, Chris added: “Some of the bigger companies within the industry have become blinkered, but that’s not the ethos we have at Beaufort.

“One of the principles we have within the company is to have fun and it’s a fantastic feeling when you’re working with two friends, for a business which has everything to go for.”

Nick hopes 2017 will be as fruitful as the last year and feels Beaufort Securities’ flexibility will be key to this.

“Unlike many of our peers we’re not restricted in who we can manage money for, which gives us a huge range of opportunities. We take a very ‘inclusive’ approach to investing,” he said.

“It’s clear we’re currently in an expansion phase and our goal is to be known around the North East as a dynamic, trustworthy, go to team for investors.”
