Family owned packaging business makes £3m move to Ossett 40 development in Wakefield

Simpson Packaging, the independent packaging merchant, has taken occupancy of its premises at Gregory Property Group’s recently completed Ossett 40 development near Wakefield.

The family owned business, which was launched 30 years ago, has relocated from premises near Dewsbury after purchasing the building for £2.4m. The Partners have invested a further £500k to facilitate expansion plans.

Simpson Packaging suppliers packaging materials, handling equipment and work-wear to the removals, self-storage and furniture industries.

Simpson’s management team believe the new 33,000 sq ft building can now facilitate a much more efficient distribution process.

Tony Dawes, one of the founding partners of the Simpson Packaging Group, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the new building.

“Gregory Property Group presented a unique opportunity for us to design and build a new facility that is perfectly located for distribution access. We had outgrown our previous premises but needed to stay locally to retain our valued workforce.

“The new facility at Ossett 40 more than doubles our operating space with greater height, more office accommodation and extended parking allowing us to invest in state-of-the art equipment for greater stockholding and faster moving stock lines.”

Simpson Packaging Group, which also operates White Rose Packaging and Dependable Packaging and employs 90 people, is projecting a £15m turnover this year.

Ossett 40 on Milner Way is located just one mile from J40 of the M1.

Gregory Property Group acquired the three-acre site in late 2014 and secured full planning consent to deliver 57,000 sq ft of new light industrial accommodation.

The pre-sale to Simpson Packaging ‘kick started’ the development and Gregory sold the last two 12,000 sq ft units before completion towards the end of last year.

Billfinger GVA and Gent Visick in Leeds were joint agents for Gregory.
