Derby Property Market ‘Thriving’ in Wake of Brexit Vote
A Derby estate agent says the property market in the city is thriving despite concerns sales would dwindle following the Brexitvote.
Andrew Sanderson, owner of AKS Residential in Pride Park who has vast experience of the London property market, said: “The London market has been much more affected by Brexit than we are. The market is thriving here and people are buying – one of our properties just got 20 viewings and 3 offers in its first week . That’s great, but from an estate agent’s point of view you can only sell it once. We really need lots more properties to sell.”
Next month will see Article 50 triggered to start the Brexit process. Britain should officially leave the EU no later than April 2019.
Andrew said: “The problem with Brexit is that people point to it when anything happens. For example, if their house is on the market too long when in reality I don’t think it’s had a major impact.”
Andrew’s interest in the property sector extends beyond his day job. He is constantly finding ways of making sure AKS has the edge over other agents by signing up for training courses or travelling across the country to meet with experts in the field who he can learn from.
He said: “Everything we’ve done is new to Derby. We are taking things from across the country that estate agents are doing and implementing them. I can say hand on heart that we do all we can to sell property for the best possible price quickly.
“Its all about getting the presentation of the property right using things like professional photography, glossy brochures and video tours and then making sure that it is advertised as widely as possible so that every potential buyer sees it. A good estate agent will make a big difference to the amount you are able to sell your property for.”
“When you get someone that trusts you to sell their biggest asset it’s one of the biggest compliments you can get. We had one lady who moved with us from another agent. She had lost her husband and wanted to downsize. When you’re dealing with someone like that and they put it in your hands it’s nice to be able to deliver for them.”
