EDF Energy Advisor Wins Award For Charity work

A Sunderland customer service advisor has won an EDF Energy award thanks to her dedication to charity work and fundraising in Sunderland.

Lisa Sidney, 31, from Washington, is the only person in the North East to win the Going for Gold award following her dedication to work-based fundraisers at EDF Energy, based at Doxford International Business Park.

Lisa was presented with the award at a special ceremony held in Glasgow, where awards were presented by gold-medal winning Paralympic athlete Natasha Baker. The formal celebration brought together the company’s best fundraisers and charity champions from EDF Energy sites across the UK.

Kevin Gatens, Doxford’s head of customer service, said: “Lisa is a really passionate and dedicated member of staff who takes great pride in the company’s work with charity partners. We are very proud that Lisa was one of only a few people to win the gold award, alongside other colleagues who also were awarded silver and bronze level awards.

“In our last corporate charity campaign with Marie Curie, Lisa dedicated a lot of her own personal time to coordinating fundraising activities which lead us to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity over the three-year partnership. She always shows real enthusiasm and thinks of new and interesting ways to plan and run fun fundraisers, which also brings the staff together.”

Silver award winners from the Doxford offices included Adam Bell, Nigel Fergus, Michael Lorenz and Bronze award winners included Anne Marie Pitcairn, Mark Forster, Shane Williams, Catherine Perry and David Whitfield.

Lisa, who is a team manager and has worked at Doxford for almost 15 years, said: “I was very pleased and shocked to win the award. My charity work is fully supported by my colleagues at Doxford and without them the fundraisers wouldn’t be able to go ahead. Everyone at the offices is very responsive to charity initiatives and it brings us all together.

“It was also great to meet Natasha as the awards were inspired by the Paralympics, she was very congratulatory.”

EDF Energy recently announced a new charity partnership with Breast Cancer Now, which is set to run for three years. The energy company hopes to replicate the success of its last three-year partnership with Marie Curie, which raised a significant amount for the charity. Between the campaigns EDF Energy also supported the British Paralympic Association ahead of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
