400 jobs to go as global beauty giant reveals Northumberland plant closure
Beauty products manufacturer Coty is likely to close its Northumberland-based manufacturing plant at the end of 2018, resulting in the loss of 400 jobs.
Founded in Paris and now headquartered in New York, the beauty behemoth acquired 41 of P&G’s brands last year.
After conducting a study of its global manufacturing capacities, the business plans to consolidate its fragrance operations into fewer core centres to reduce costs following the takeover.
The Seaton Delaval plant, which is a fragrance operation, has been marked as one area surplus to requirements.
Kay Plumley, Seaton Delaval Site Leader, said: “I am committed to fully supporting all our colleagues in Seaton through the coming months.
“Our priority is to work closely with them and their families throughout the consultation and to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect.”
