Transformation of Leeds city centre’s Majestic Building unveiled
Rushbond PLC, the property investment company, has unveiled plans for the transformation of the Majestic Building in Leeds city centre.
With work on the new 65,000 sq ft development due to start this summer, the Majestic will be transformed into new Grade A office floorspace.
This development, which secured planning permission at the turn of the year, will see a new office environment, over six floors, being created right in the centre of Leeds.
An additional three storeys are also set to be added to the building, whilst a three-storey height foyer will be built to welcome employees and visitors.
Mark Finch, director of real estate at Rushbond, said: “The Majestic will offer all the amenities and qualities demanded by modern-day business, right in the heart of the city, within a truly unique iconic building.
“Leeds is a city with an eye over its shoulder at the past but importantly, a real ambition for the future. The exceptional quality of the design blends with the exceptional quality of the location and the prestige of a City Square location.”
The plans have evolved through the work of a Leeds-based design team including DLA Design, engineering consultancy Buro Happold and construction consultancy Gardiner and Theobald, working alongside real estate advisers JLL.
Mark added: “The Leeds City Region is the largest economy in the Northern Powerhouse, the largest outside of London, with a hot bed of talent and innovation flowing from its leading institutions and the 3 million people that live within it.
“Leeds is at the heart of the City Region and the Majestic is right within the heart of the City. A growing and ambitious City needs the quality of office space to meet the demands of modern business and this speculative development will deliver a scheme with both style and substance.
“The plan to bring HS2 right into the railway station is a demonstration of the spirit and intent that rests within the City, allied to a whole stream of inspiring and transformational projects.
“We are pleased to be a part of the Leeds City Region delegation to MIPIM 2017 and to help in showcasing what the City has to offer to a truly international audience.”
Roger Marsh OBE, chair of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, commented: “We are taking our largest ever delegation to MIPIM 2017 to drive home the message that that Leeds City Region is the biggest hitter in the Northern Powerhouse and committed to transformational schemes such as Rushbond’s impressive plans for the Majestic.
“With an economic output of almost £65bn, and the UK’s largest and fastest growing workforce, Leeds City Region provides the ideal location for the world’s leading businesses to thrive.
“Located close to what; with the arrival of HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail, will be the main Yorkshire Transport Hub, the Majestic will create an impressive welcome to Leeds city centre as well as being concrete evidence of the major investment underway.”
