Whitstable developer wins trip to Vegas with Electricbase
Whitstable developer George Wilson has won a trip to Las Vegas after entering a competition with local electrical wholesaler Electricbase.
He was entered into the ‘Watt’s Up’ prize draw after spending more than £100 on his first order with Electricbase, the electrical and lighting specialist within builders’ merchant Buildbase in Herne Bay.
Mr Wilson was up against thousands of tradespeople across the UK, who flocked to branches to win on-the-spot prize as well as to be in with a chance of taking the ultimate prize, a trip for two to Las Vegas.
He said: “I was shell shocked to hear I’d won. I’ve never been to America in my life. I’m a boxing fan, so I hope to see one of the big fights.”
Mr Wilson had been a customer of Buildbase since 2015, but had never spent with Electricbase.
The materials he bought were for property development company, George Wilson Holdings, which he established on Clapham Hill more than 40 years ago. He has since been awarded an MBE for his contribution to business and employment in Kent. His most recent project will see the revitalisation of Ashford’s Commercial Quarter.
He added: “We started using Buildbase two years ago and it has been very good. We have a dedicated guy at the branch, which has worked well. He knows what we want from a merchant and 99% of the time we get what we need, when we need it.”
Steve Howell, Managing Director at Electricbase, presented Mr Wilson with his prize:
“Watt’s Up has been our most successful promotion to date. By inviting Buildbase customers to give Electricbase a go, it’s raised awareness of the extent of what tradespeople can get from us. We share the same site, so it’s really convenient for them. Mr Wilson was totally shocked to hear he had won. We’re really pleased for him and hope he has a great time in Vegas.”
