Architects & Automation
The home of the future will be more practical and efficient than ever before if architects and home automation specialists continue to collaborate.
In the modern day, people are becoming increasingly tech savvy and want to embrace new technology as long as it provides real value. Smart home technology certainly fits that description with its ability to completely automate a house, allowing a homeowner to receive security alerts, plan a heating schedule, drastically reduce energy bills and execute personal commands at the touch of a button.
There is no doubting that the smart home concept will help to improve the practicality of day to day life, but it could take some time before it reaches its full potential in the UK as not every house has the appropriate infrastructure. There are certain wireless systems that can be programmed to work extremely well in an existing home, but there may be certain limitations as to what can be achieved without initially causing minor defects.
The most suitable time to consider automating a home is during the planning stages of construction. This gives the owner the flexibility to achieve anything they want to from home automation, as a specialist can carefully plan the installation of the relevant infrastructure and products, whilst working in cohesion with other consultants.
The Associate Director of a leading UK architecture practice highlighted the importance of collaboration for new build projects in CEDIA Communicates Magazine:
“At the heart of every great project are the three c’s – communication, collaboration and coordination. Almost invariably, the most successful projects combined the technical expertise of a home technology professional, with the design knowledge and implementation of other consultants, including an interior designer, architect and/or lighting designer.”
In comparison to other home build consultants, home automation specialists have not been around for long. However, many architects recognise that smart home technology can be a valuable factor when planning a dream home for their customers and therefore are inviting home automation consultants to collaborate on relevant projects.
