Revealed: Berkeley unveils 88-acre Southall Waterside regeneration scheme
Berkeley Group has revealed the final plans for its 88-acre regeneration scheme at Southall Waterside that were granted planning consent last year.
The developer is to deliver 3,750 new homes and 500,000 sq ft of retail, restaurants and cafes on the former gasworks site in west London over the next 25 years which it claims will provide a £47m boost to the local economy and create 600 new jobs both during and after construction.
Complementing Southall’s current town centre, the regeneration masterplan will also involve the construction of a new two-form entry primary school and health centre, along with vast swathes of green outdoor space and a central park area.
According to Berkeley, the first homes at the scheme are set to be completed to coincide with the opening of the Elizabeth Line in 2019, connecting Southall to the rest of London thanks to the new Grand Union Canal Crossrail station.
Karl Whiteman, Divisional Managing Director of Berkeley Homes, commented: “At Southall Waterside we’re going to be making a significant impact on both the immediate and wider area.
“The results of our latest economic impact assessment demonstrate that impact in a major way – and with its results we invite those looking for a promising career to make themselves known.
“Given the scope of housebuilding targets in London for the next few decades, there’s never been a better time to consider a career in construction.”
