First brick laid at Clanfield's new sports facility

Representatives from local bowling clubs, Clanfield Parish Council and East Hampshire District Council have laid the first brick for the new sports pavilion in Clanfield.

St James Pavilion is being built by five star housebuilder David Wilson Homes for the local community and once complete it will be handed over to East Hampshire District Council.

David Wilson Homes managing director Tim Hill said he was delighted to involve the local community in laying the first brick at the facilities.

“We are committed to building communities in which people want to live and we believe that the homes we are building and these new facilities will be of real benefit to everyone in the area,’’ said Tim.

“We have worked closely with the Clanfield Parish Council, East Hampshire District Council and the local community to ensure that the new facilities meet current and future plans for groups and we hope that everyone will enjoy the facilities for many years to come.”

Progress on the new sports facilities have been welcomed by local councillors.

Cllr Ken Moon, EHDC member for Clanfield and Finchdean, said: “It is vitally important the local infrastructure and facilities match the new homes and the new residents it brings and this sports pavilion has been provided as part of the major new development at St James Place.

“It has been delivered through the hard work of Clanfield Parish Council and the housebuilders, with the support of East Hampshire District Council, and it is really exciting to see work is underway.”

Cllr Nigel Wren, Councillor for Clanfield and Finchdean, said: “An extensive consultation with local residents highlighted the need for these kinds of facilities and demonstrated the popularity of a bowls green and youth football pitches.

“These will be excellent facilities for the residents of Clanfield and I can’t wait to see them in full use.”

The new bowls green is due for completion later this year.
