High Hopes For Eastwood With 16 New Homes Planned In £2M Development

A new planning application has been put forward for a development of 16 new homes in a £2M Eastwood regeneration project, which aims to help get people on the property ladder through shared ownership.

The development plans to convert the 0.75 acre site into a mix of one and two-bed and three bed properties of a modern design, in a bid to help local families and first time buyers get on the property ladder by creating high-quality, yet affordable housing.

The Nottingham-based site, located in Walker Street Eastwood, currently houses the Victory Club, an old working men’s club which sadly has been disused for the last four years and is beyond any sort of economical repair with hazardous material inside.

Hodgkinson Builders are looking to develop the old Victory Club site in partnership with Futures Housing Group to meet the growing demand for affordable home ownership through a shared ownership model, along with an opportunity for private rented homes with a reputable landlord.

This scheme is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) who will be providing grant funding for the development of this scheme. Ian Hodgkinson, the Managing Director of Derby-based Hodgkinson Builders, said: “This planning application is a great opportunity to regenerate a disused space and turn it into a development which benefits the local community.

“These plans present an opportunity to help meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the local area and will provide high-quality housing for people requiring good quality housing in Eastwood.”

The decision date for this planning permission application is 22 March 2017. If approved, The construction process is forecast to commence in April 2017 and be completed by March 2018.

Helen Brown, New Business Manager at the Futures Housing Group, said: “We are excited about investing in Eastwood and meeting the needs of the local people, whilst creating a positive impact on the existing site for the local community.”

Ian added: “Before the planning committee meet, we are hosting an open day at Eastwood CFC Football Ground, Chewton Street, Eastwood,NG16 3HB in the Pitch Side Lounge on Monday 20th March between 4pm and 6 pm. Local residents are more than welcome to attend, have a cup of tea or coffee where we can take in their views and show them our vision.

“By encouraging people to invest in property in the area, we hope to meet a demand for the lack of housing, but also support young people, families and even local businesses through the increased footfall new residents will bring.

“We will also be looking for local residents to help name the new road, as we want the community to get involved with the new development.”

Hodgkinson Builders has provided the local community with similar high-quality housing projects, including a recent development of 11 houses on Great Northern Road, Eastwood.

Futures are an ambitious registered provider, with plans to build more than 1,000 homes throughout the East Midlands by 2020. This will include a diverse mix of tenures to meet the needs of a range of customers.
