Popular Hillsborough enjoys a property boost says expert

THE picturesque Rivelin Valley is proving to be a property favourite with buyers looking to invest in Sheffield’s popular Hillsborough area.

Semi-detached and terraced properties in the streets around Rivelin Valley Road have seen some of the greatest increases in value for S6, with an overall rise of 27 per cent in the past five years.

And Anita Nel, the manager of the Hillsborough branch of estate agents and lettings experts Martin & Co, says that S6’s mix of older properties and family homes shows no sign of declining in popularity.

“The area around Rivelin Valley Road leading to Manchester Rd has seen the best increases,” she said.

“And the highest demand in this area is for semi-detached and terraced properties that have actually outperformed detach properties.”

The latest research, she added, showed that terraced properties are now worth an average £128,219 in Hillsborough, compared to £110, 929 across the rest of South Yorkshire and Humberside, while semi-detached properties are worth on average £163,271 compared to £143,736 across the wider area.

“Online property forecasters like Hometrack are predicting increases in regional property prices and it is true that as London cools off traditionally the regions start to pick up, a trend that will be reflected in Sheffield just as it has in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham,” Anita explained.

“In the Crookes area of Sheffield prices have increased by 10 per cent in the last year, outperforming the national average, and average prices there of £185,075 mean that people are being priced out of this area and are coming down the hill to Hillsborough.

“We have already seen evidence of this as more and more people are choosing to rent and buy in the Hillsborough area.

“Hillsborough is proving to be a big attraction for tenants and buyers based on the feedback we have and with its blend of good shops, schools, leisure, transport systems and a wide selection of properties to both buy or rent, my prediction would be that the only way is always up for S6.”
