A former rugby player is directing people to healthy meals through his GPS-enabled app

A 30-year-old entrepreneur and former semi-professional rugby player is preparing to launch his GPS-enabled app which helps direct users towards meals that are suited to their dietary and nutritional requirements.

Nutrifix Founder, Joel Burgess, has already attracted backing from Just Eat for his app, which can also suggest recipes depending on the user’s preferences and requirements.

Utilising GPS, the app can suggest meals at nearby participating cafes and restaurants, which will meet their own, specific requirements utilising measurements such as protein, carbohydrates and calories.

Inspiration for the app came about after Burgess’ rugby career was cut short through injury, and his struggle to control his weight left him desirous of an app that helped him control his weight instead of merely measuring metrics.

He said: “My own desire to lose weight led me to realise the gap in the market for a product that encouraged healthy choices on the go, working around people’s hectic lifestyles.

“Without the proper support, maintaining a balanced diet can be a painstaking and time-consuming process but, with Nutrifix, I am determined to take the stress out of healthy eating.”

Burgess, who is also a fully qualified personal trainer, soft launched the app in January this year and has already attracted 750 members to the app and signed up 9,700 food outlets including Tossed and boutique outlets such as Neat Cafe.

Now Nutrifix is launching its £150k crowdfunding drive on Crowdcube, to further accelerate the development of its technology platform and gear up for its full launch.

Crowd investors will have the opportunity to join the likes of Headspace and Crussh Fit Food who have previously backed the business, which is currently exploring ways to monetise and grow its offering.

Possible developments on the horizon mooted by the startup include a raft of premium features such as shopping list integration as well as partnership with food delivery and takeaway providers.
