Housebuilder continues support for charity KidsOut

A fundraising evening organised by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has raised £78,965 for the KidsOut charity, with money raised going towards helping disadvantaged children across the region.

Staff from the five star housebuilder together with suppliers and sub-contractors enjoyed a black tie Question of Sport themed evening at St Mary’s Stadium which ended with the unveiling of the Barratt Dive Challenge.

Novice divers from the housebuilder and suppliers were taught to dive from a 10m board by Olympic diving silver medallist Peter Waterfield.

The five brave volunteers, who had no prior training, were put through their paces by Pete and his Olympic coach Lindsey Fraser at The Quays Diving Complex in Southampton in the challenge.

Their efforts were filmed and then shown as the finale of the Question of Sport Quiz at the fundraising evening which was attended by more than 450 guests from local businesses linked to the housebuilder.

The divers were Barratt and David Wilson Homes commercial director Ian Sneddon, construction manager Richard Langton, Ricky Jenkins from KA Watts Plumbing and Heating, Mike Mayock from Mackoys Groundworks and Mark Winteridge from Quayside Electrical.

A signed photo of the divers went for more than £1,000 in the charity auction.

KidsOut is a charity focused on giving disadvantaged children positive experiences to support them becoming future members of our society and workforce. The money raised will go towards providing day trips and toys to deprived children across the south, many who have escaped domestic violence and sought sanctuary in a Women’s Aid Refuge.

Josh Slater from Barratt Homes and chair of the Kids Out Southampton committee, attended the evening and commented:

“KidsOut is a wonderful charity providing much-needed support to young people across the region, we’re delighted to have hit our target this year, it’s been the culmination of a year of hard work and planning and we wouldn’t miss the chance to support such a good cause.”

Gordon Moulds CBE, chief executive at KidsOut, commented: “We are holding this event up and down the country throughout the year, and I’m thrilled to say the event in Southampton was a brilliant success again. KidsOut really does rely on events like this to help raise awareness and funds for disadvantaged children so it’s fantastic to see so many local businesses, including Barratt Homes, helping us do that. We want to say a huge thank you to all who attended, and are overjoyed that we raised over £78,000 which will go towards helping disadvantaged children across the region.”
