First CQC-approved care technology platform raises £1m in funding

London-headquartered care technology provider, Vida, has raised £1m in seed funding and announced the opening of a new office in Brighton to expand its service across the South East.

The seven figure funding round has been led by investment firm Hambro Perks along with contributions from Barnaby Cardwell of Cardwell Technologies, Grima Ventures and some unnamed angel investors.

The funding means that Vida, which was the first CQC-approved care technology platform, can now expand outside of Greater London, and is set to launch a new Brighton office bringing its services to East Sussex and West Sussex imminently.

Focused on private-at-home care, Vida has developed a technology platform which supports caregivers in providing more personalised and effective care to those who need it by encouraging transparency and upskilling carers on its platform.

Specifically, the healthtech business has developed a system which helps to match up care professionals with clients dependent upon their specific needs, with rigorous background checks and workshops which it says help to raise standards.

The firm is also looking to improve the continuity and efficiency of care through the digitisation of care plans on its platform, which can be easily accessed by stakeholders.

Following the funding announcement, Vida Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Naushard Jabir said: “This funding allows us to continue developing and deploying the ground-breaking technology that makes Vida so unique.

“We are dedicated to actively training and developing our home care professionals and our rates of pay is one of the highest in the industry. Opening our Brighton and Hove office is the next natural step for Vida.

“We made the decision because of the overwhelming number of requests we received from the area, so it was logical to have local support staff on the ground.”

Today’s funding in Vida comes amid heightened competition for market dominance amongst firms looking to apply technological solutions to the UK’s growing care requirements, as an ageing population places stress on the country’s already stretched care provision.

London’s HomeTouch, which provides on-demand carers to clients, recently rolled out nationwide, while competitor Cera signed new partnerships with Uber and the NHS to further expand its services in the capital.

Jabir’s fellow Co-Founder, Devika Wood (pictured) said that Vida, which claims to deliver tens of thousands of hours of care every month in London, was providing a service that was ‘desperately needed’ across the country.

She commented: “Our expansion into markets outside of London shows that a service such as Vida is desperately needed across the UK. Our clients and carers tell us that the technology we employ provides them the peace of mind they so crave. We’re so proud of the whole team seeing how far we’ve come.”
