Booths expands outside North West for first time with Malaysia export deal
North West supermarket chain Booths is expanding outside the region for the first time after signing an export deal in South East Asia.
The Preston-headquartered company has announced a joint venture to sell its own brand products in Malaysia.
As part of the deal, Booths will make its jams, chutneys, teas, coffees, flavoured water, healthy snacks and breakfast items available in 19 stores across Malaysia.
The family-run firm’s new Export and Business to Business department is led by Henry Booth, who flew out to Malaysia earlier this year to meet new customers.
He commented: “I’m very happy that British products made in the north west of England could have such a positive and enthusiastic reception on the other side of the world and I hope that the Malaysian customers will grow to love Booths’ products as much as the customers we serve in the UK.
“There is a real fondness for heritage brands in Asia, and we hope the Booths story and products will capture their imaginations.”
Booths, which was established in Blackpool in 1847 as a tea dealer, reported the best Christmas in its 169-year history last December after sales topped £10m.
