Merrion Centre set for major investment to cement 10-year partnership with Triton Construction

Merrion Centre, the Leeds city centre shopping centre, has announced plans for further investment in partnership with Triton Construction.

The new development marks a decade of initiatives that the Bradford-based construction services provider has delivered at the centre, including the introduction of the first Merrion Centre Costa Coffee shop on Woodhouse Lane in 2007.

In total, Triton has worked on 18 projects for the Merrion Centre, with each project completed by Triton.

The latest project will see the introduction of new business units at the south end of the centre to further enhance the Merrion Centre’s retail offer.

The location of the new kiosk-style units makes them suitable for retailers looking to capitalise on the Merrion Centre’s high footfall levels especially as they are in close proximity to the new Ibis Styles Hotel and Marco Pierre White’s New York Italian restaurant.

Town Centre Securities, owner of the Merrion Centre, has already confirmed that the first tenant to take up one of the new kiosks will be electronic cigarette retailer Socialites, with more announcements to be made in the coming weeks.

Triton is delivering the refurbishment and upgrading of a number of the centre’s features, including the internal programme of offices, receptions areas, mall upgrades and store unit renewals.

Helen Green, associate director of Town Centre Securities, said: “At the Merrion Centre, we have been undertaking a phased improvement and investment program for over 10 years now. Triton worked on the very first improvement project, the creation of Costa on Woodhouse Lane, and have been with us ever since.

“Together, Town Centre Securities and Triton have delivered a variety of new stores and offices, along with improvements for a host of occupiers and tenants.

“Triton has always been great at rising to the challenge of minimising disruption and inconvenience to our customers whilst delivering a quality job on time and on budget.”

Michael Parkinson, Triton’s managing director, added: “Town Centre Securities has been an ideal partner with a great vision for where they want to take the centre that we are proud to be a part of.

“Our relationship with Town Centre Securities has helped ensure the continued success of our own business and, as we know, the team has some very exciting plans for the future of the centre that we look forward to supporting and helping to make a reality.”
