Tottenham Hotspur reveal record revenues as Levy calls for patience on stadium move
Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur have revealed record revenues for the financial year up to 30 June last year coming off the back of their best finish ever in the Premier League.
The North London club, which is currently in the process of constructing their new 61,000 seater stadium, saw revenues jump to £209.8m last season, up by 7% from the £196.4m it brought in during 2015.
Both an increase in UEFA Europa League prize money and gate receipts, which stood at £18.7m, and a jump in TV and media revenues, which were up to £94.8m, fuelled the club’s surge to record revenues, with pretax profit also up to £33m from £9.4m the previous year.
However, stagnant gate receipts, which stood at £22.2m compared to £22.3m in 2015, and a £2m drop in domestic cup revenues, underlined the club’s pressing need for a new stadium as work continues to progress on their new home.
While it is widely assumed that the club are set to move out of White Hart Lane at the end of this season and play all their home games at Wembley next year, Chairman Daniel Levy would not be drawn on specific timeframes, and said that the club would only rubberstamp a move once it was sure the £850m Northumberland Development Project was definitely on track.
In a statement he said: “This financial period saw record revenues and the Club’s highest placed finish in the Premier League. There was also substantial progress on capital projects with schemes underway at both the new stadium site and our Training Centre.
“We have run this Club on a financially secure basis for the past 16 years, whilst remaining ambitious and with a vision for its future growth and success.
“We continue to focus on ensuring that the future of the Club is protected at all times and therefore, whilst everyone is eager to know if this is our last season at the Lane, we shall only make the decision to decommission our historic White Hart Lane when we have greater certainty on the delivery of the new stadium.”
