Housebuilder supports lifesaving service
A Hornsea coastal rescue centre that saves up to 30 lives a year has received a donation from a leading Yorkshire housebuilder.
Both Persimmon Homes’ Yorkshire and PLC branches of the business have thrown their weight behind the Hornsea Inshore Rescue Centre with a joint £2,000 donation.
This comes as a part of the housebuilder’s national Community Champions scheme, which has donated over £1million to good causes since March 2015.
The donation will provide intensive support and training for four volunteer crew members.
Sue Hickson Marsay, chairperson at Hornsea Rescue, said: “We’re so pleased to be awarded this donation from both Persimmon Homes Yorkshire and PLC, meaning a significant investment in our crew development.
“Our service - that stretches both along and off the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire - would be impossible without trained volunteers and without them lives could be lost across the coast.
“The training for our volunteers will include level two powerboat skills, a focus on first aid as well as personal survival techniques.”
The group has worked hard to fundraise for themselves with collection boxes raising on average £700 a month, while talks and tours to promote water safety raise at least £300 a month.
Kevin Thubron, sales director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled to team up with PLC to award this vital charity with a £2,000 donation.
“Last summer the group saved 12 lives and two dogs, showing its value to the community.
“Helping out charities in the areas in which we build is important to us, with Hornsea Inshore Rescue Centre so close to our Aspiration development, which is in its final phase of two, three and four bedroom homes.
“If people were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
