Luxury show apartments launch at popular Otley development

Garnett Wharfe, a pioneering David Wilson Homes development regenerating a derelict paper mill site in Otley, launched its luxury riverside show apartments to crowds of prospective buyers last week, selling four homes over the launch weekend. The development has seen huge local interest and proven extremely popular, with nearly 70% of available homes now sold.

As homes remain in high demand across the region, Garnett Wharfe’s apartments provide a perfect solution for those looking to downsize, or purchase a luxury, second home close to friends and family in Yorkshire. Twelve of the 36 apartments at the development are now available to buy, offering two-bedroom living alongside one-bedroom penthouse suites. Potential homebuyers can now visit the show apartments, which includes the Rye, a two-bedroom apartment with a wrap around balcony, and the Esk apartment, a two bed with an en suite master bedroom and river-facing balcony. Apartment types are selling fast due to the stunning riverside location.

David Wilson Homes’ continued investment in the site is one reason it’s proving so popular, with Buon Apps, an authentic Italian restaurant in Otley, confirmed as opening a new premises, offering customers an al fresco dining area and a spacious riverside restaurant, alongside a Visitor Centre.

Set on the historic site of the Garnett paper mill this picturesque development has also seen the recent installation of two Archimedes screws to form part of its impressive hydroelectric facility, generating electricity from the river weir, making the development carbon neutral on an offset basis. The facility is the latest in a host of environmental initiatives at Garnett Wharfe, which also includes an otter holt, bat chamber and a fish pass to help protect local wildlife.

Dan Hardcastle, Sales Manager at Garnett Wharfe, commented: “Set in a fantastic, idyllic location along the river bank, this is truly one of our most popular developments, which is no surprise. Our new apartments offer the perfect luxury home, ideal for downsizers, and have so much to offer. Many of the apartments offer secure underground parking and cycle storage and alongside the beautiful balconies and scenic surroundings, they are already getting snapped up quickly!”

Jackie Summerfield, Managing Director of Show Business Interiors, who developed the interiors of the new show apartments, added: “Garnett Wharfe is considered a really fabulous location and is in a very much sought after area, close to great schools and lovely surrounding towns and villages. We wanted the interiors of the show apartments to reflect its beautiful surroundings, whilst showcasing a contemporary feel.

“The flooring in the show apartment is a warm, dry cedar wood style and the doors are a soft light oak, which we used as a starting point to select the colour scheme. This considered, we used an ivory base with a soft blue, and a light taupe, which feels incredibly serene, light and luxurious. The show homes have a clean, modern finish, appearing smart and fashionable, but still homely and very spacious.”

Garnett Wharfe is set along the southern side of the River Wharfe in the attractive market town of Otley. The development benefits from being located in a truly picturesque setting, with homes along the riverbank, open spaces and a pedestrian route leading to Otley town.

Garnett Wharf has received investment through the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) loan fund. The fund is available to support capital projects, focusing particularly on infrastructure.
