Bradford’s Kirkgate Shopping submits plans for major redesign of centre’s entrance

Bradford’s Kirkgate Shopping Centre has submitted plans for a major redesign of the Kirkgate entrance, which is expected to cost over £1m.

The redesign includes the construction of a new double storey glazed entrance lobby; a replacement of the existing escalators; the introduction of a new staircase alongside the new escalators; new illuminated cladding and signage to the entrance tower and the creation of a double storey shopfront on Kirkgate.

Catherine Riley, Kirkgate Shopping centre manager, commented: “The news of this project comes on the back of a busy first quarter to the year.

“A new entrance of this style is going to further strengthen our place in the city and ensure that Kirkgate Shopping is front and centre when it comes to the Bradford retail map. We cannot wait to see the finished article.”

This announcement follows on from Kirkgate Shopping securing a trio of lease renewals, new retailers and the move to a new bigger unit for Virgin Media.

Garreth Keating, director at Bride Hall Real Estate Partners, added: “This project is the first major investment we are implementing from our plans for the centre.

“It underlines the confidence we place in Kirkgate Shopping and the regeneration works in place for Bradford as a whole.

“Our aim is to showcase the centre in its very best light and the new entrance will not only be much more visible, but will also reflect the quality of the interior and retailers we have in place.”

Kirkgate Shopping offers 650 parking spots on-site and remains the home of more than 70 retailers and one of two Bradford indoor markets.
