Gardners partner with Cardiff Council

One of the UK’s leading print manufacturers, Gardners, has recently partnered with the City of Cardiff Council to support its campaign to promote the safe disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

A Cardiff-based company, Gardners installed the Council’s bi-lingual signage outlining the proper disposal of electrical goods onto a fleet of 14 vehicles using its patented advertising system, Agripa. It is hoped that these new banners will spread important messages of safe disposal to the residents of Cardiff, helping the city to make a positive impact to WEEE disposal targets.

A Council spokesperson said: “According to data released by the Environment Agency, a total of 591,005 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) from both household and businesses were collected in the UK last year. This represents just over 36 per cent of the average amount of new equipment placed on the market in the three preceding years (2013-2015), well short of the minimum of 45 per cent required by EU law. So clearly this is a major priority for Councils nationwide, as such we wanted to make sure that we are doing as much as possible to raise awareness and have a big impact in our local area.

“We’re very pleased to workwith Gardners on this project. Keeping our city clean and void of harmful waste whilst promoting recycling are key concerns for the Council. We regularly use our own media space to promote bilingual Council messages so that they are clear and understood by all. We’ve found that regular communication through a visible platform can be very effective.

“We’re the capital city of Wales and we want to ensure that we are as green and efficient as possible. In order to do this, we need to keep our residents informed in order to help keep our city tidy.”

Business Development Manager for Agripa at Gardners, Tracy Lott, said: “Many waste electrical goods contain hazardous substances which can pose a risk to human health and the environment if they are not disposed of correctly. As such, we’re proud to be working with Cardiff Council on a project like this to help promote the message of recycling as it is one that affects us all and is key to ensuring that as a city we remain as safe and sustainable as possible.

“The disposal vehicles are an ideal canvas to promote the safe disposal messages. We are very happy to provide a cost-effective system that allows Cardiff Council to showcase its campaigns and messaging easily, giving the general public relevant information with a platform that allows the messaging to change in minutes should the team require.”

The City of Cardiff Council is keen create a system that maximises recycling efforts across the board, helping to minimise waste as much as possible while keeping residents safe. The partnership with Gardners ensured that its messages were promoted using high-tech tools to realise positive change and save money on things like recycling de-contamination, street cleaning and recycling rates.
