Chief economist to address IoD South Yorkshire dinner

One of the UK’s most respected economists will be the guest speaker at the Institute of Directors’ South Yorkshire annual dinner.

James Sproule, chief economist and director of policy of the IoD, will share speaking honours with Master Cutler Richard Edwards at the black-tie event, which takes place on 4 May at the historic Cutler’s Hall, Sheffield.

Around 200 business leaders will attend the prestigious event, with attendees from industries ranging from advanced manufacturing to professional services and the public and third sectors.

Prior to joining the IoD - the UK’s longest-running organisation for professional leaders – James Sproule led the UK research team at Accenture. He started his financial career as a merchant bank economist working with Bankers Trust, Deutsche Bank and Dresdner Kleinwort.

James stood for Parliament at the 2005 general election and spent seven years as a visiting fellow in the Department of Management Economics at the London School of Economics.

Richard Edwards was installed as Master of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire in October 2016, becoming the 378th Master Cutler. He has been involved in running steel and tool-making businesses in Sheffield for 30 years.

Keith Jackson, chairman of the IoD in South Yorkshire, said: “This promises to be a memorable social event with inspiring speakers and great company. Building upon the great success of last years’ inaugural dinner, we are delighted that the dinner is now firmly established as one of the region’s most prestigious business events.”
