Steve wants to create ‘Latino Bay’

A man who has grown up in the hotel and catering industry wants to create his own ‘Latino Bay’ at the new venture he is to head up in the North East.

Although his roots are in Derbyshire – where he used to help around the hotel his mother ran – Steve Welsh believes a dash of South American cuisine will add spice to life in Whitley Bay.

He has been appointed General Manager of Hotel 52 – currently being created in South Parade by fast growing North East property business, All Saints Living. And one of his first initiatives will be the launch of Loca Restaurant at the 32 bedroomed boutique hotel.

He says: “I think people will really appreciate the chance to enjoy food which is not really available in the area right now and we are sparing no expense in fitting out the ground floor restaurant with outside terrace.”

Steve, 30, who has worked in the hotel and entertainment business all his life, added: “I am very excited about this venture because Whitley Bay has attracted around £80 million of investment in recent years and is undergoing changes which will, once again, make it an attractive visitor destination.”

Steve is now recruiting staff for the venture and is particularly keen to hear from those with Latin American roots and catering experience. Refurbishment work on the new hotel and restaurant is well underway – with a May opening anticipated.

As well as this conversion of the former Newquay Lodge, All Saints Living is developing another Hotel 52 in Stanley, on the site of the former Stanfield House residential home. This is expected to serve visitors to Beamish Museum and Tanfield Railway as well as C2C cyclists.

Until now, the Newcastle headquartered operation has specialised in conversions and new developments of homes for sale and serviced apartments for rent.

Based at Saint Cuthbert House in Newcastle, All Saints Living is part of The High Street Group, which was established by successful entrepreneur Gary Forrest in 2004 and has grown to become a leading financial and property group. It employs over 50 people and activities include residential property development, private rental schemes across the UK and serviced apartments.
